Marianne Brandt, born Marianne Liebe (1893-1983), is a German designer of lighting and industrial products who was part of the Bauhaus. In 1926 Brandt moved to Dessau together with the Bauhaus. She was put in charge of lighting design within the metal fabric before becoming head of it in 1928 and 1929. She spent a lot of time designing lighting. Her designs reflect a strong interest in science and engineering, which she used to create flexibility for the user when it comes to directing or manipulating the light source. This also applies to this lamp, Model 971, designed together with Hin Bredendieck.
