Raak Amsterdam
Timeless beauty
One of our favorite brands from the 60s-70s
Raak Amsterdam, founded in 1954 by Carel O. Lockhorn, is a leading Dutch lighting manufacturer of the 20th century. The brand is known for its integration of harmonious designs with cutting-edge interiors, with the tagline “Illuminated Architecture”. Lockhorn, previously employed by Philips, also opened a branch in Eindhoven after Amsterdam.
In the 1960s, Raak began collaborating with artist and glass manufacturer Willem van Oyen, resulting in remarkable creations such as the handmade Chartres Wall Lights, inspired by the glass plates of Chartres Cathedral. Raak regularly collaborates with international designers, such as Maija-Liisa Komulainen and Frank Ligtelijn, whose Globe 2000 Floor Lamp became a minimalist masterpiece and a vintage classic.
Raak became a leading lighting company of the post-war period, playing an important role in the ‘Space Age’ style of the 1960s and ’70s. Raak lamps are loved by collectors and vintage enthusiasts worldwide and continue to have a lasting influence on lighting design. We think they are beautiful and try to keep them in stock regularly.
