Nanny Elisabet Still McKinney<\/strong> (Helsinki, July 31, 1926 – Brussels, May 7, 2009) was a Finnish designer. She graduated from the Helsinki Arts and Crafts School and worked as a designer at the Riihim\u00e4ki glass factory from 1949. There she designed both art glass and utility glass for mass production. Her early works in the 1950s were in the abstract style of Scandinavian modernism. Her best-known work, the Flindari glass series, was created in 1963.<\/p>\n

However, she also worked with other materials. In 1954 she received a prize at the Milan Triennale for a wooden salad set. She also designed metal cutlery. In 1973 she created the Mango series for the Finnish company Hackman, and in the 1990s a series of cast iron pots.<\/p>\n

In 1959 she moved to Belgium and also worked for tableware manufacturers in Central Europe, such as C\u00e9rabel and the German manufacturers Rosenthal and Heinrich Porzellan.<\/p>\n

The table lamp Model D-2059<\/strong> produced in the late 1960s and early 1970s by Raak Amsterdam<\/strong> was designed by Nanny Still Mckinsey<\/b>, according to the reference works. This table lamp made of metal and glass has a height of no less than 80 cm and is therefore a real eye-catcher in the interior. The base consists of metal rings with gemstones made of oven-fermented glass. The lamp has an interesting shade made of matt polished blank aluminum. Raak Amsterdam describes the gemstones as “… glass fermented in the growing kiln and solidified into worlds of almost non-existent color and structure” (Raak Amsterdam Light Catalogue, page 32). Due to the timeless decorative appearance, the lamps suit a retro ’70s, a Mid-Century Modern, Art Deco, Regency, brutalist or an industrial or contemporary interior. The aluminum lampshade has a slightly conical shape. The central tubular aluminum column rises from the base. This is decorated with a series of 5 aluminum rings. The top and bottom are empty round frames.<\/p>\n

The 3 rings in the middle hold handmade colored glass panels. Each of these 5 rings rotates 360 degrees and can be placed in different positions, as well as moving up and down the main vertical column. Each glass section consists of 2 round glass panels of the same colour, mounted on either side of the aluminum round frame. The diversity of texture, effect and color is exceptional. The lamp is in good condition and has normal signs of wear depending on the age of the lamp. All glass panels are original with no chips or cracks. The brushed aluminum base is in good condition, without dents and only superficial signs of age. The stainless steel shade is in very good condition (see photos). The lamp has been completely restored (not by us) with attention to the natural patina. We gave the lamp a new earthed plug. You only have to screw in a lamp (E27) to enjoy a beautiful retro ’60s-’70s atmosphere.
